Depravity

Moral corruption

The depravity of her actions concerned the teacher.

She was known for her honor and virtue.




Gravity

Seriousness

You could feel the gravity in the air as we sat and waited for the news.

The role of play in a child's development is critical.




Banal

Unoriginal; ordinary

The writing was banal but the story was good.



Antonym- Fresh

She decided to start fresh by moving away.




Extol

To praise

The teacher extolled her for her polite behavior.



Antonym- Desanctify

The church was going to be desanctified into houses if we didn't put a stop to it.




Euphony

Pleasant sound

You can describe the choir's voice as euphony and beautiful.



Antonym- Discordant

There was discordant tones coming from the instrument




Deride

To ridicule; to laugh at contemptuously

My classmates derided my work but were awestruck when I got an A.



Antonym- Approve

My teacher approved of my paper so I sent it in to win a contest.




Insipid

Dull; banal

The meal was rather insipid.



Antonym- Tasty

The chocolate cake was very tasty.




Austere

Unadorned; stern; forbidding; without much money

She was known for her austere style of writing.



Antonym- Gentle

There was a gentle knock at the door.



Expedite

To make faster or easier

They were asked to expedite the process.



Antonym- Accept

I accepted the consequences for my actions.




Heresy

An opinion violently opposed to established beliefs.

Gnosticism was a major heresy during the early Church.



Antonym- Orthodoxy

My beliefs are rather orthodoxy.
