Candid

Honest; frank

Candace asked for a candid opinion on her hair, so I told her the truth.





Antonym- Dissembling

I don’t need to dissemble what everyone already knows, it’s time to tell the truth.





Discernment

Insight; ability to see things clearly

Having no discernment when it comes to school causes the lack of good grades.



Antonym- Dullness

The dullness of the light caused me to bump into the table.





Disdain

Arrogant scorn; contempt

I have a disdain for people who bully others.


Antonym- Respect

I respect anyone who has the courage to take a stand.







Abstract

Theoretical; lacking substance

The abstract art in the museum really makes you think.

Antonym- Concrete

It’s helpful to have concrete results when presenting a theory.








Temperate

Moderate; restrained

Instead of yelling at me my parents were very temperate when they gave me my punishment.



Antonym- Immoderate

The way the daughter spoke to her mother was considered immoderate.








Enigma

Mystery

I consider the new kid to be quite an enigma.



Antonym- Certainty

You do not know your future for certainty.




Inevitable

Unavoidable; bound to happen

You can’t stop the inevitable from happening.



Antonym- Uncertain

I was uncertain on the path I was supposed to take.








Eccentric

Not conventional; a little kooky; irregular

I considered the girls outfit to be very eccentric.



Antonym- Normal

I had a normal childhood.





Provincial

Limited in outlook to one’s own small corner of the world; narrow

People who are depressed tend to stick to their own provincial.



Antonym-Sophisticate

She decided to sophisticate her clothes when she got the internship.



Futile

Hopeless; without effect

I made a futile attempt to stop her from quitting.



Antonym- Effective

My speech seemed to be very effective.
